In the absence of medical facility in the school and proper road and transport facility to the hospital, the warden, Hema, did not think twice to carry the sick student, Bhuvaneswari, who was almost unconscious, through the rocky terrain to reach the hospital in time.

On Friday, doctors at the hospital said the girl recovered and would be discharged in a couple of days.

“I was clueless as the girl was down with high fever and unable to take food. I immediately decided to carry her on my shoulder despite the arduous task. I walked for six km with divine blessings,” Ms. Hema told the media.

Ms. Hema received some help from the local residents only after reaching Gummalakshmipuram, the mandal headquarters.

Meanwhile, AP Mahila Commission Chairperson Rayapati Sailaja lauded Ms. Hema’s efforts in ensuring timely treatment for the sick student.

“Your spirit of service, humanity, and dedication in carrying a student suffering from high fever on your shoulders through a hilly terrain for about 6 km to ensure her timely medical care are truly commendable,” she said in a social media post.

“You have proven that duty, coupled with humanity, can save a life. Officials who work with such spirit of service and devotion serve as an inspiration for others,” Ms. Sailaja observed.

District Medical and Health Officer S. Bhaskara Rao told the media on that a fever survey had been taken up in all the tribal areas. He said the department had conducted medical camps and diagnostic tests for nearly 14,000 people in the last couple of days. He visited Deppivalasa village and interacted with the residents to know if there were complaints of fever. He advised them to drink lukewarm water.
