Padamati Anvitha, a mountaineer from Telangana, has scaled Mount Denali (6,190 metres), the highest peak in North America, completing her sixth summit in the Seven Summits Challenge.
She reached the summit on June 19, moving a step closer to becoming one of the few Indian women to conquer the highest peaks on all seven continents.
Born and raised in Bhongir in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, Anvitha has summited Mount Everest (8,849 m), Mount Manaslu (8,163 m), Mount Vinson in Antarctica, Mount Elbrus in Europe, Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa and Mount Aconcagua in South America.
She has also led expeditions to Indian peaks such as Mount Gorichen in Arunachal Pradesh and Mount Khadey in Ladakh. She is recognised as the first Indian to reach the true summit of Mount Manaslu and the first Indian to climb Mount Elbrus during winter while unfurling a 10-metre-long Indian tricolour at the summit.
She is currently associated with the Transcend Academy of Rock Climbing in Bhongir.
Anvitha said every mountain teaches humility, patience and perseverance, and described carrying the Indian flag to the summit of Denali as a matter of immense pride.
