Portuguese star footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmedthat the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be his last. A video now going viralshows lakhs of supporters chanting and dancing to his name in a city square.
Many shared this clipahead of the much-anticipated contest between Portugal and Spain. One such post read, “This is what it means to be the GOAT! Thousands of fans came together to chant Cristiano Ronaldo’s name — pure love and passion for the legend. Watch till the end!”
India Today Fact Check found that the video is completely unrelated to Cristiano Ronaldo. It is from Poland, and shows the celebration of a local football club’s fans.
OUR PROBE
A reverse search of keyframes from the viral video led to an Instagram post featuring the same clip, dated May 26 — over two weeks before the 2026 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 12. Notably, no Ronaldo chants were audible in this version.
The same user shared several other videos from the event, with Polish captions that translate to, “Krakow is ours, this city belongs to us.”
Subsequently, we found the same clip on the Facebook page of A News, a Turkish news channel, on June 1. The accompanying caption stated that tens of thousands of Wisla Krakow fans had filled the city’s historic Old Town square to celebrate the club’s promotion. The post added that supporters cleaned up the area before dispersing.
A Google Street View comparison of the buildings and structures visible in the video confirms that the clip was filmed near the Church of St Barbara in Krakow, Poland.
A Reuters reportdated May 25 corroborated these details, confirming that thousands of Wisla Krakow fans had gathered at the Old Town’s Main Square on May 24 to mark the club’s promotion to the Ekstraklasa, the top-tier Polish football league.
This confirms that the viral video has nothing to do with Cristiano Ronaldo at all.
