Chief Executive Officer of Dharwad Zilla Panchayat Bhuvanesh Patil has directed district-level officers to regularly monitor the quality of drinking water in rural areas and take the necessary measures to ensure regular and adequate supply of safe drinking water to the public.
Chairing a Water and Sanitation Committee meeting in Dharwad recently, Mr. Patil instructed officials to periodically test whether water being supplied is potable
Emphasising the need for installing appropriate signboards near borewells used for supplying drinking water, he said that strict action will be taken against officials if contaminated drinking water is supplied to the public.
Mr. Patil also said that ensuring adequate drinking water supply to schools, anganwadi centres and households is the responsibility of the officials concerned and no negligence on their part will be tolerated.
He directed officials to ensure that water purification units remain functional and those under repair are made functional. He also asked officials to review the progress of works under the Jal Jeevan Mission and ensure that overhead drinking water storage tanks are cleaned on a regular basis.
Mr. Patil further said that officials must compulsorily attend taluk-level review meetings and also come with proper homework and comprehensive information on the status of various works already taken up.
Executive Engineer Jagadish Patil, District Health Officer Parashuram F.K., District Programme Officer Kamala Bailur and others were present.
