South Western Railway recorded its highest-ever freight loading for June, handling 4.18 million tonnes in June 2026, a 5.2% increase over the corresponding period last year.
South Western Railway (SWR) has achieved its highest-ever freight loading for the month of June, recording 4.18 million tonnes (MT) in June 2026, marking a significant growth in freight operations and overall revenue.
The Zone registered a 5.2% increase over the 3.98 MT handled in June 2025. SWR also achieved its best-ever average daily wagon loading for June at 2,221 wagons per day, up from 2,143 wagons last year, marking a 3.6% growth, according to a release.
Among the major commodities transported, iron ore loading reached 1.69 MT, up 6.3%, while steel loading rose 7.4% to 0.90 MT. RMSP traffic recorded the sharpest increase of 34.5% to 0.23 MT. Mineral oil loading grew by 15.8% to 0.21 MT, cement traffic increased by 32% to 0.03 MT, and container loading rose 15.8% to 0.09 MT.
SWR reported a total gross revenue of ₹733.23 crore in June 2026, a year-on-year increase of 1.55%. Freight operations contributed ₹402.61 crore, while passenger earnings stood at ₹290.43 crore, registering a strong 15.08% growth over the corresponding month last year. During the month, the Zone carried 14.85 million passengers, an increase of 4.36%.
Parcel revenue stood at ₹14.30 crore, while other coaching and sundry revenues contributed ₹26.66 crore and ₹13.53 crore, respectively. Ticket checking activities generated ₹4.96 crore through 0.58 lakh cases, the release added.
