The Hassan district administration launched the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Karnataka by collecting information from writer and International Booker Prize winner Banu Mushtaq’s family members at Pension Mohalla in Hassan.

Deputy Commissioner K.S. Latha Kumari and other officials of the administration, along with booth-level officers, visited Ms. Mushtaq’s residence and distributed enumeration forms. The writer and her husband filled the forms with relevant information, and submitted them.

Ms. Mushtaq said that she had been worried about the SIR process, and the documents required when she received information about the district administration launching the process at her residence. “I did not know what documents I should look for. However, the process was smooth. The officers helped me fill the form,” she said.

Ms. Mushtaq said that the enumeration process requires only the Aadhaar card, and the voter identity card. “I suggested to the DC and officers to ensure that everybody gets similar cooperation from officials during this process,” she said.

Ms. Latha Kumari said the enumeration phase of the SIR had begun. “We launched the process at the residence of writer Banu Mushtaq. There are four voters in the family. We distributed enumeration forms to them, and collected the completed forms. The booth-level officer will upload the information collected on the designated application,” she said.

The process is simple, and the officers involved in the exercise have been trained well, she added.
