Markapuram District Collector M. Vijaya Sunitha announced that the district administration has formulated plans with the goal of cultivating horticultural crops across 63,000 hectares over the next three years. This is part of the government’s ambitious plan to develop Rayalaseema and Prakasam-Markapuram districts into a global horticulture hub.

She said that the State government has made plans to cultivate orchards in 16,000 hectares in the first phase in Markapuram district. The Collector urged the farmers to focus on horticultural crops alongside traditional agriculture and added that they could achieve the desired results by employing proper management practices and using high-quality seeds. She also suggested the farmers to cultivate the crops by following the recommendations of Agriculture Department officials.

In light of the government advisory regarding the impact of El Niño this year, the Collector alerted the farmers to avail the advice and suggestions provided through the ‘AP AIMS’ app. She noted that 1.15 lakh farmers in the district had registered on the app so far. She stated that the government will provide all possible support to the farmers who are passionate about the agriculture.
