Following the death of a 70-year-old contract worker allegedly due to electrocution at a Namma Metro construction site near Trinity Metro Station on M. G. Road in Bengaluru on June 26, Ulsoor police registered a case against a contractor, site supervisors, and Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials on the charge of causing death by negligence.

The deceased has been identified as Gurappa P. (70), a resident of Mutturayaswamy Doddi near Bannerghatta.

Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s son, Ulsoor police registered an FIR under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) (causing death by negligence) against Suraj (A1) of M.R. Electricals, Rajesh (A2), Manasa (A3), and BMRCL officials (A4).

According to the complaint, Gurappa had been working as daily wage labourer. On June 26, officials from M.R. Electricals allegedly contacted him over the phone, and told him to report for work at a metro construction site at Trinity junction, M.G. Road .

Around 3.30 p.m., while removing concrete chipping between two metro pillars on the median, Gurappa allegedly came in contact with a live electric line, and suffered a fatal electric shock.

The complainant alleged that the contractor and supervising officials had failed to provide essential safety equipment, such as helmet, safety gloves, and other protective gear, and had not taken adequate precautionary measures despite the hazardous nature of the work.

The family has accused the contractor, supervisors, and BMRCL officials of negligence, claiming their failure to ensure workplace safety led to Gurappa’s death.

Police registered the case and initiated an investigation to determine whether safety protocols were violated at the construction site, and to fix responsibility for the fatal accident.
