Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs George Kurian has resigned from his post after his Rajya Sabha term has come to an end
The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, has accepted the resignation of Shri. George Kurian from the Union Council of Ministers, with immediate effect, under clause (2) of Article 75 of the Constitution, a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique noted.
Mr. Kurian, a BJP leader from Kerala, was elected to Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh in 2024 during by-elections. The BJP had decided not to renominate him in the recent Rajya Sabha polls.
Mr. Kurian was also holding the charge as Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying.
Mr. Kurian was probably the only Minister in the Union government who belonged to the Christian community. His Rajya Sabha tenure ended on June 21.
