The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) cadre led by former minister Sake Sailajanath staged a rally before submitting a memorandum to District Collector O. Anand regarding the issues faced by farmers due to the burden of debt in Anantapur on Monday (June 22, 2026).

Speaking to the media, Mr. Sailajanath stated that farmer suicides and agricultural issues have escalated in recent times in the district. While farming families are facing financial collapse, he said, the government has neglected these problems, alleging that this is leading to farmers ending their lives in distress.

He said crops are withering due to a shortage of irrigation water, yields are declining amidst rising cultivation costs, and farmers are falling into debt as they are unable to get fair prices for their produce. “The government’s failure to provide timely compensation has left farmers in a state of helplessness,” he alleged.

The government must come to the aid of these families, he said, adding, “It is the responsibility of the government to help farmers and prevent suicides due to debts. He called for immediate action to address the crisis.

Mr. Sailajanath demanded full compensation for crop losses, immediate and urgent intervention to resolve irrigation water issues, ensure remunerative prices for every crop cultivated by farmers, make fertilizers and seeds available in a timely manner, and disburse crop insurance and crop loss compensation immediately.

The YSRCP also demanded constitution of a special district monitoring committee to address farmers’ issues.
