The Kochi Corporation launched its third roll-on roll-off (ro-ro) vessel, which was built at the Cochin Shipyard, here on Monday.
Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan will formally inaugurate the commercial services of the new vessel later this month.
Mayor V.K. Minimol launched the vessel, which has been designed to accommodate 14 trucks, 12 cars, and 50 passengers. Speaking on the occasion, she said the new vessel had been built addressing the shortcomings of the existing vessels. Ms. Minimol added that the launch of the third ro-ro vessel would further ease the life of commuters on the Vypeen-Fort Kochi route.
Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation managing director R. Girija, Cochin Shipyard Limited chairman and managing director V.J. Jose, Corporation standing committee chairpersons, secretary, and officials attended the function.
