Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati on Monday (June 22, 2026) claimed that Opposition parties, especially the Samajwadi Party (SP), have become anxious after her party began fielding Brahmin leaders as candidates for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Ms. Mayawati added that the interests of the upper castes, including Brahmins, are safe only under a government run by the BSP.
The BSP has been announcing constituency-wise in-charges/candidates as part of its preparation for the State Assembly polls scheduled early next year.
“Ever since the Bahujan Samaj Party, in preparation for the upcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, has started fielding candidates from the upper caste community, especially Brahmin community, upon their entry into the BSP, a wave of anxiety is being seen in all the Opposition parties, especially Samajwadi Party, which foresees the possibility of the next election results being a repeat of the 2007 polls when the BSP formed a government with a full majority due to the contribution of the Brahmin community,” she posted on X.
‘Proper respect’
The four-time former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister added that only in the BSP government, Brahmins were accorded full respect and honour as well as full participation at every level of governance.
“Anyways, it is well known that in a State like U.P. with a huge population, the interests of the upper castes, especially the Brahmin community, are safe only in the BSP. The Bahujan Samaj Party has proved this by implementing its principle, intention and policy of ‘Sarvajan Hitaya Sarvajan Sukhaya’ first at the party level and then, even after forming the government, by giving them full respect and honour as well as full participation at every level, whereas in the governments run by other parties, the people of this class have been feeling neglected, insecure and cheated for a long time,” added Ms. Mayawati.
