After the success of Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past, filmmaker Vikram Bhatt has announced his next film, 1920: Cold Winter. On June 19, producer Anand Pandit shared the first-look poster of the film on Instagram and confirmed that he and Bhatt are teaming up again for another horror title.
The announcement comes at a time when Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Pasthas emerged as a surprise box office performer among recent Hindi releases. The film has brought audiences back to theatres for Bhatt’s horror cinema and has also renewed attention on the 1920franchise, which will now move into its sixth chapter with 1920: Cold Winter.
Sharing the poster, Pandit wrote, “The Anand Pandit-Vikram Bhatt partnership continues its winning streak. Following the massive success of 1920, the duo is already creating buzz with Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Pastand is now all set to bring audiences 1920: Cold Winter, the next chilling chapter in the iconic franchise (sic).”
The first poster shows a mansion with faint yellow lights under a stormy night sky, with an old horse-drawn carriage in the foreground. A blurred face can be seen through the rain-soaked carriage window. The poster carries the tagline, “Beware the innocent. They hide the darkest evil,” and also says, “Experience the terror in 3D.”
Haunted 3D box office run
Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past has given Bhatt fresh momentum after a long gap without a major box office win. The film was described as a surprise performer despite competition from multiple releases, and it secured the top position during its week of release. It was also seen as a profitable venture on a controlled budget.
The film arrived alongside Main Vaapas Aaunga and Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, but moved ahead in collections to lead the weekend race. According to trade website Sacnilk, Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Pastearned Rs 18.91 crore gross and Rs 16.12 crore net in India, while Main Vaapas Aaunga collected Rs 14.60 crore gross and Rs 12.25 crore net. Bharat Bhhagya Vidhaata, starring actor-politician Kangana Ranaut, collected Rs 7.82 crore gross and Rs 6.59 crore net.
On Day 8, Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past collected Rs 0.50 crore, down 56.5 per cent from the previous day’s Rs 1.15 crore. It was screened across 2,248 shows and took its total India net collection to Rs 16.40 crore, while gross earnings stood at Rs 19.24 crore.
In a recent interview with News18, Bhatt said he was not surprised by the film’s performance. He said, “No, I’m not (surprised). Because the film was promoted. But it was promoted where we thought we should promote it. Fortunately or unfortunately, we didn’t have the budget to carpet bomb. So we targeted that audience that we knew would come for the film.”
Bhatt said there were hoardings for the film, but the team did not go overboard because they saw it as a mass film and believed that was where ticket sales would come from.
He also said he had always believed the Hauntedfranchise had a loyal audience. Bhatt said the film’s performance did not make him happy at the expense of others and added that he did not want anybody to have poor numbers because there was enough space in the country for two or even three successful films to run at the same time. “I’m just happy that my film did well,” he said.
Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past wasreleased in theatres on June 12. The film features Mahaakshay Chakraborty, Chetna Pande, Hemant Pande, Praneet Bhat and Tia Bajpai in key roles.
