Three persons were killed and three others sustained serious injuries in a road accident near Ramannagudem Stage in Peddavoora mandal of Nalgonda district on Thursday night, June 18.
The deceased were identified as Kakarla Thomas, 51, and Prakash Rao, 35, both residents of Kakarlapalem village in Muppalla mandal of Palnadu district, and Saikumar, 20, an engineer working at the SLBC project site from the Warangal region.
The car they were travelling in, a blue SUV, rammed into a sedan coming in the opposite direction. “They were trying to overtake another vehicle when they collided head on with the sedan,” said an officer from Nalgonda police.
Nalgonda Superintendent of Police (SP) Sharath Chandra Pawar visited the accident site on Friday (June 19) after receiving information about the incident.
During the inspection, he reviewed the circumstances surrounding the accident and sought details from officials regarding the condition of the vehicles involved and the road where the crash occurred.
The SP directed police officers to collect all available evidence and conduct a detailed investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
Officials informed him that the injured victims were shifted to the Area Hospital at Nagarjuna Sagar for treatment immediately after the accident. The SP instructed officials to ensure proper medical care for the injured and conveyed his condolences to the families of those who died.
Speaking on the occasion, Sharath Chandra Pawar appealed to motorists to follow traffic rules and road safety norms. He said accidents often occur due to negligent driving practices such as overspeeding, failure to wear seatbelts and driving under the influence of alcohol.
He advised motorists to remain cautious while travelling on national and State highways, particularly while overtaking vehicles, and to adhere to prescribed speed limits.
Police said a case has been registered and an investigation is underway. Further details are expected to emerge during the course of the probe.
