A 22-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her male friend following a heated argument over suspected infidelity in Bengaluru’s Bellandur Police Station limits on Sunday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Aati Hangma Suba, 22, a native of Sikkim, who was working as a receptionist at a private salon in the city.
The accused, identified as Purba Lepcha, a native of Darjeeling, was employed as a waiter at a private hotel in Bengaluru.
According to the police, the two of them had been in a relationship and had moved to Bengaluru about a month ago. They were living together in Doddakannalli. Investigators said the accused suspected the woman of being in contact with another man, which reportedly led to frequent disagreements between them.
On Sunday morning, an argument broke out between the couple over the issue. As the altercation escalated, the accused allegedly attacked the woman with a kitchen knife and slit her throat, killing her on the spot.
A senior police officer from the Whitefield division said preliminary investigations indicate that the murder was triggered by the accused’s suspicion regarding the victim’s relationship with another person.
Bellandur police rushed to the scene after receiving information about the incident and took the accused into custody. A case has been registered, and further investigation is under way.
The victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
