As part of the Andhra Pradesh government’s Yogandhra programme, a tourism-based yoga event was held at the Rock Garden in Orvakal mandal on Monday (June 8, 2026).
District Collector A. Siri, who took part in the yoga session, said yoga brings mental peace and physical strength, and urged everyone to take up yoga to improve their physical and mental health. She said 200 master trainers had been trained to expand the Yogandhra programme across the district, down to the village level.
These master trainers will prepare trainers at the mandal and village levels, who in turn will create awareness about yoga among the public. The Collector said special steps were being taken to increase public participation in the Yogandhra programme in every village.

She appealed to the public to register for Yogandhra, take part in the mega yoga event on Sunday (June 21, 2026), and get certificates.
Ms. Siri said that, under government guidelines, yoga events were being organised at tourist places across the district. About 500 people took part at the Rock Garden, and she said yoga demonstrations and mass yoga events would also be held at six major temples in the district.
Yoga competitions are being organised at the village, mandal, district and State levels as part of the “Yogandhra” initiative. The Collector said those selected at the district level would take part in State-level competitions and bring recognition to the district. Winners were encouraged to make the most of the chance to receive certificates and prizes.

Maintaining that mental strength is as important as physical fitness, the Collector advised everyone to bring yoga, meditation and pranayama into their daily lives. Practising pranayama for at least 10 minutes a day could benefit one’s health, she said, and noted the value of “smart work” alongside hard work.
Earlier, students from Dr. Abdul Kalam Municipal High School gave advanced yoga demonstrations. The event was attended by Joint Collector Nurul Qamar, District Revenue Officer C. Venkata Narayanamma and several government officials.
