The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is all set to begin in Dharwad district from June 30. Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad and District Election Officer Snehal R. has sought the cooperation of the political parties and general public for successful completion of the exercise.
Addressing presspersons in Dharwad on Friday (June 5), Ms. Snehal said that the SIR exercise would be conducted till October 7, as per the direction of the Election Commission of India.
She said that October 1 has been fixed as the eligibility date for the electoral roll. “From June 20 to 29, the process of preparing the electoral roll, training and printing will be taken up. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit houses from June 30 to July 29 and the draft electoral roll will be published on August 5. People will have time from August 5 to September 4 to file objections, and disposal of objections will be taken up from August 5 to October 3. The final voters list will be published on October 7,” she explained.
Dharwad district has seven Assembly segments with 1,665 polling stations and 16,22,294 voters, including 8,05,624 male, 8,16,572 female and 98 voters belonging to the third gender. For the SIR, 1,665 BLOs and 230 BLO supervisors have been appointed.
She said that so far, the Congress and BJP had appointed BLOs, and other political parties should immediately appoint BLOs and submit the BLO-2 forms to voter registration officers.
The Deputy Commissioner said that VFCs (Voter Facilitation Centres) had been established to organise special camps to assist voters. For 1,665 polling stations, 452 VFCs have been established. Technical assistance will be provided to the BLOs to upload the forms and requisite documents submitted by the voters, she said.
She also said that for the benefit of the voters, 509 BLO facility centres had been identified. To train and assist the BLOs and BLO supervisors, Assembly segment-wise workshops were conducted, she said.
A Media Monitoring Centre (MMC) had also been established to address the issues raised and problems if any pertaining to the SIR in the media. Steps would also be taken to check misinformation and action against the spread of fake information, she said.
D. Devaraj Urs Corporation manager Kushal Chougala (7406979074) has been appointed as the district nodal officer of MMC. KNNL chief administrative officer S.N. Rudresh (8277833377) will be the district nodal officer for the overall monitoring of SIR.
