A. Kowsigan appointed Chief Electoral Officer of Kerala

A Kowsigan, a 2009 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Kerala cadre, is the new Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Kerala.

He succeeds Rathan U. Kelkar, who has taken charge as Secretary to Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan. Mr. Kowsigan’s previous postings include Secretary, Ports department; Commissioner, Land Revenue; Commissioner, Disaster Management; and Director, Animal Husbandry.

Mr. Kowsigan hails from Tamil Nadu.

As the representative of the Election Commission of India (EC) in the State, the CEO is responsible for updating the electoral rolls and supervising the elections and by-elections to the State Legislative Assembly and Parliament.
