The Election Commission of India, in collaboration with the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), is organising a five-day workshop in the national capital beginning Monday (May 25, 2026), aimed at strengthening institutional preparedness and resilience in electoral processes.
The workshop also aims to support Electoral Management Bodies (EMBs) in developing and institutionalising structured electoral risk management frameworks, policies and operational systems.
It is being organised as part of the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM)–International IDEA collaboration framework on “Risk Management and Electoral Resilience” under India’s Chairship of the Council of Member States of the International IDEA for 2026.
The International IDEA is the only global intergovernmental organisation with a mandate solely dedicated to supporting and strengthening sustainable democracy worldwide.
The workshop on “Risk Management and Electoral Resilience” will be held at the IIIDEM, New Delhi, from May 25 to 29, the ECI said in a statement.
On Monday (May 25, 2026), Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, addressed the participants during the inaugural session.
“All Election Management Bodies (EMBs) in the world, need to keep identifying risk areas and work towards mitigating them on a continuous basis in accordance with Law and keep strengthening the democratic systems by enhancing competition amongst the candidates/ parties and increase the voter participation,” Mr. Kumar said.
A total of 32 participants comprising Election Commissioners and senior officials of EMBs representing 12 countries, electoral managers, risk management and technology professionals, and officials engaged in crisis management and electoral integrity initiatives are participating in the programme.
The participants discussed the need for proactive identification, assessment and management of electoral risks to safeguard electoral integrity, continuity, legitimacy and public trust in an increasingly complex risk environment.
