The Bengaluru Traffic Police registered 592 drunk driving cases during a special enforcement drive conducted across the city between May 18 and May 24.

The week-long operation was carried out by personnel attached to all 53 traffic police stations in Bengaluru as part of a citywide crackdown on drunken driving and over-speeding.

According to official data released by the traffic police, a total of 37,829 vehicles of various categories were checked during the special drive against drunk driving. The police booked 592 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol.

In a parallel enforcement drive against over-speeding, the police registered 148 cases and collected fines amounting to ₹1.49 lakh from violators.

Traffic police officials said the special drive was aimed at curbing reckless driving, preventing accidents and improving overall road safety in Bengaluru. Authorities added that similar enforcement operations will continue in the coming weeks.
