The SR Nagar police on Saturday (May 23) arrested a 50-year-old boxing coach under the POCSO Act following allegations of harassment and criminal intimidation made by a 17-year-old trainee boxer associated with the Lion Boxing Club at Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.

According to the complaint filed by the victim’s mother, the minor girl, has been training at the club for the past 10 years. The accused, identified as Ramachandra (50), was serving as her coach.

The complaint alleged that the coach had been behaving inappropriately with the minor over a prolonged period and that the incidents had intensified in recent months.

The family had reportedly earlier raised concerns before the club committee regarding his conduct, but no action had been taken.

Police said the complaint further alleged that during a boxing competition trip to Chennai on May 17, the accused allegedly called the girl to his room, behaved inappropriately with her, and threatened her against informing family members about the incidents.

The complainant also alleged that similar incidents had taken place earlier at the Kanteerava Stadium premises.

Based on the complaint, police have registered a case under relevant provisions related to harassment and criminal intimidation. The accused is in police custody for medical and other formalities for further investigation.
