TMC’s Falta candidate Jahangir Khan on Monday (May 18, 2026) moved the Calcutta High Court, seeking protection from any coercive police action, after he claimed that criminal cases were being continuously slapped against him.
Moving the court of Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya and seeking an urgent hearing, Mr. Khan’s counsel Kishore Dutta prayed for disclosure of all FIRs filed against him, and protection from coercive measures.
Justice Bhattacharyya said he will hear the matter later in the day. Mr. Dutta, a former advocate general of West Bengal, stated before the court that Mr. Khan is a candidate from Falta Assembly Constituency, where repoll is scheduled on May 21.
Polling was countermanded in Falta in South 24 Parganas district, following allegations of largescale irregularities on April 29, the day of voting.
