The latest hike in fuel prices has triggered widespread concern among motorists and daily commuters in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday (May 15, 2026).
In Thiruvananthapuram, petrol is now priced at ₹110.76 per litre, while diesel has touched ₹99.64 per litre. The revised rates, which came into effect on Friday (May 15, 2026) morning, reflect an increase of over ₹3 per litre for both petrol and diesel, which is attributed to the rise of global crude oil price due to the West Asia conflict.

At fuel stations across the city, including major outlets at Bakery Junction, Pattom and Kazhakuttom, vehicle owners expressed frustration over the mounting cost of transportation and its likely impact on household budgets.
“People expected this the moment the elections were over. As soon as the results were declared, fuel prices went up. Ordinary people are the ones suffering every time,” Suresh Kumar, an autorickshaw driver from Jagathy, says
According to Anitha R., a home maker in Pettah, the hike will soon increase the expense of daily commodities from vegetables to grocery items. Middle-class families are already struggling with rising living expenses, she said.
Gig workers also voiced concern over their shrinking monthly savings. Nizamudeen, a food delivery executive, says the sudden hike is bound to affect their income. “Fuel is one of our biggest expenses. We would be required to make more food deliveries to sustain our monthly income,” he laments.
Some residents called for government intervention to ease the burden on consumers. “The new government’s assurance of reducing fuel tax should bring some relief. Ordinary people, including pensioners, are finding it increasingly difficult to cope with repeated hikes, Mohanan Pillai, a retired employee of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), points out.
Various political parties have announced protest plans against the Centre for allegedly burdening the common populace with repeated increases in fuel costs.
