A student claimed that his father smashed his laptop and forced him to sleep on the floor after his Class 12 Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) results, which sparked concern online and led to conversations around academic pressure and parental expectations in India.
The student shared the post on Reddit’s r/CBSE forum under the title, “I know I am late here, but this is what my father did after 12th results were out.”
Accompanying the post was a shocking red into multiple pieces and scattered across the floor.
The device’s broken screen, detached keyboard parts, and damaged internal components could be seen strewn around, suggesting it had been smashed with considerable force.
In the caption, the student claimed the incident happened after his CBSE Class 12 results were announced.
“And if that wasn’t enough, he took away my room and bed from me, and makes me sleep on the floor now. I am facing verbal, physical, mental and emotional abuse since the results are out,” the post read.
The student further revealed that he had scored 57.4 per cent and had received Essential Repeat, a CBSE classification that requires a student to reappear in certain subjects.

The post gained traction online, with many users expressing concern over the student’s well-being and criticising extreme reactions tied to academic performance.
Several commenters urged the student to prioritise his safety, with some saying they were disturbed after seeing multiple stories of harsh parental reactions following exam results. Some expressed sympathy, arguing that no student deserved to face abuse over marks.
Others attempted to encourage the student to stay strong and focus on improving academically, while still acknowledging the difficult situation he appeared to be facing.
Some users also reacted emotionally to the destruction of the laptop itself, particularly students who said they had relied on the same devices for years. One commenter shared that seeing a laptop smashed like that would leave them devastated, adding that they hoped important components like the SSD or hard drive had at least survived.
The incident came shortly after the Central Board of Secondary Education announced Class 10 and 12 board examination results earlier this month, with lakhs of students across India checking their scores amid the usual mix of anxiety, celebration, and relief.
Just days ago, however, a completely different post around exam results had gone viral online.
In a contrasting incident, a Mumbai boy’s family won hearts after celebrating his school exam score of 55 per cent with a custom cake designed like a mark sheet. The family was seen cheering him on despite the modest score, with many online praising the supportive gesture as an example of encouragement over pressure.
The two viral moments led to broader conversations online about how families responded to academic setbacks, and whether emotional support mattered more than marks themselves.
