A village accountant was caught red-handed by Lokayukta Police while accepting a bribe of ₹2.5 lakh for carrying out a house mutation in Bidar district on Tuesday.
According to officials, Mahadev Shantappa, a resident of Markunda village in Bidar taluk, approached village accountant Shivakumar seeking mutation of his house.
It is said that Shivakumar, along with his associate Sharanayya Swami, demanded a bribe of ₹5 lakh to process the work.
Unwilling to pay bribe, Shantappa lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta Police in Bidar.
Following this, a trap was laid on Tuesday at a dhaba on the outskirts of Markunda village where it was decided that an advance amount of ₹2.5 lakh will be paid.
A team led by Bidar Lokayukta Deputy Superintendent of Police Hanumantharaya caught Shivakumar and Sharanayya Swami while they were accepting the bribe amount from the complainant.
Both the accused have been taken into custody.
