The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast isolated light showers, thunderstorms and lightning for all three regions of Andhra Pradesh until May 14.

Gusty winds, with a speed reaching 40 kmph to 50 kmph are also likely to blow in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema regions. According to the IMD, the change in weather is expected due to the lower tropospheric South Easterly/South Westerly winds prevailing over the State.

According to the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA), light rains and thunderstorms are likely to occur in the districts of Alluri Sitharama Raju, Polavaram, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Sri Sathya Sai, YSR Kadapa, Chittoor, and Tirupati.

One or two places in these districts may receive rainfall on Saturday as well. Other stations may experience heatwaves. A few mandals in the districts of ASR, Polavaram and East Godavari may experience heatwave conditions on Friday, according to the IMD.

Meanwhile, temperatures have come down in the State after the change in weather. The day’s highest temperature of 41.7°C was recorded at VR Puram in Polavaram district, followed by Kommipadu in Nellore district (41.3°C) and Nagaradona in Kurnool district and Kadapa (41.2°C).

Farmers, labourers, and cattle herders working in fields have been warned against standing under trees during thunderstorms.

By 5 p.m., the day’s highest rainfall was recorded in Gamparai of ASR district at 21.5 mm. Other places in Guntur and East Godavari also recorded light showers.
