On the eve of his birthday and just weeks ahead of his retirement, the State government on Tuesday revoked the suspension of controversial IPS officer K. Ramachandra Rao (1993 batch) and reinstated him into service with immediate effect. He is set to retire from service on May 31.
Mr. Rao, who was serving as Director General of Police (DGP), Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement, had been placed under suspension on January 19, 2026, pending disciplinary proceedings, following a set of videos that emerged on social media that purportedly showed him in compromising positions with multiple women in his office. Following his reinstatement, Mr. Rao has been posted as Director General of Police (Police Manual) with immediate effect, until further orders. The DGP(Police Manual) is a newly created post. The government clarified that the post is equivalent in status and responsibilities to the cadre post of DGP, Criminal Investigation Department (CID).Transfers
