As the AIADMK plans to hold its first meeting of newly elected legislators on Wednesday (May 6, 2026), its strategies will be in the limelight; these plans focus on tackling the post-poll landscape after finishing third in the Assembly election, countering the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in the immediate term, and rebuilding the party over the medium term.
For the time being, the party would not extend support to the regime that is likely to be formed by the TVK. Making this clear, former Finance Minister C. Ponnaiyan told The Hindu on Tuesday (May 5) morning that “we are an ally of the BJP. How does the question of my party supporting the TVK or taking support from the TVK arise?” His observation assumes importance in the context of the fledgling party repeatedly calling the BJP its “ideological adversary.” Besides, Mr. Ponnaiyan contends that a deeper look at the victory of the TVK reveals that the party has an appeal “only in a limited number of districts.”
