From grinding it out in Tamil Nadu first-division cricket to achieving u-19 World Cup glory, R.S. Ambrish has seen a phenomenal rise. The teenager scaled another peak on Friday when he earned his maiden IPL contract after being picked up as a replacement by Sunrisers Hyderabad.
In an exclusive interaction with The Hindu, the all-rounder revealed how he made the cut. The announcement came while Ambrish was on the field during a TNCA first-division match. “I got to know during a water break,” he said.
For the TN youngster, the call-up is a natural progression after knocking on franchise doors. The 18-year-old had attended trials with Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, but it was the Orange Army that secured his services.
