Shivamogga MP B.Y. Raghavendra has demanded that the State government announce a relief of at least ₹1 lakh per hectare for areca plantations damaged by heavy rains in Bhadravathi taluk.
Speaking at a press conference in Shivamogga on Thursday, Mr. Raghavendra said that heavy rains accompanied by high-speed winds, which lashed parts of Holehonnur and Anaveri hoblis on the evening of April 26, caused massive losses to hundreds of farmers. Vast stretches of mature areca trees were flattened.
