A candidate shared how a recruiter responded after he politely declined a job opportunity following an interview, and the internet isn’t impressed.
The post, shared on r/recruitinghell, was titled, “I decided shortly after an interview that it wasn’t a good fit. This was their response.” In it, the candidate included a screenshot of his email exchange with the recruiter.
According to his post, the candidate had sent a courteous message after the interview, thanking the company for their time and explaining that he would not be moving forward with the role. However, the reply he received took a noticeably curt tone.
In response, the recruiter wrote, “Considering the interview, I would agree. We wish you the best of luck finding your future opportunity!”, a line several online users interpreted as passive-aggressive, suggesting the company had also deemed him unfit.
Take a look at the post here:

The exchange got attention, with users weighing in on what they saw as an unnecessary response.
Some commenters said they didn’t understand why recruiters couldn’t simply respond respectfully, noting that in similar situations, they would just wish candidates well and keep the door open for future opportunities.
Others pointed out what they described as a double standard in hiring, arguing that companies often expect candidates to handle rejection gracefully but react poorly when the roles are reversed.
A few users went further, suggesting that such reactions revealed an ego-driven culture in recruitment, where employers were used to being the ones making the final call, and didn’t take rejection well when it came from candidates.
While the interaction itself was brief, it added to ongoing discussions about professionalism and mutual respect in hiring processes.
