We reverse-searched keyframes from the viral video and found a news report published by Business Times Bangladesh on June 18. According to it, a 40-year-old man died from electrocution while clearing accumulated water from a building’s roof in Debottar Bazar, Atgharia. The deceased, Shahadat Hossain, was a resident of Kadamdanga village in Chandva Union.

The incident occurred around 10:00 am on the roof of the Al Arafah Islami Bank building. According to locals quoted by the report, Shahadat accidentally came into contact with a live wire and died on the spot. After receiving information about the incident, a team from the Atgharia Fire Service reached the location and recovered his body.

We then found a Facebook video posted by Live Bell TVon June 19. The post stated that 40-year-old Shahadat Hossain lost his life after being electrocuted while trying to remove rainwater that had accumulated on a rooftop in Atgharia, Pabna.

To further confirm the incident, India Today Fact Check reached out to Bangladeshi fact-checker Tanvir Mahtab Abir.

He spoke to Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun, the additional superintendent of police in the Mymensingh district. Mamun said, “So far, our investigation has found no connection between the deceased in Pabna and the killing of Dipu Chandra Das. At this stage, we are certain that the rumours circulating on social media are baseless.”

It is important to note that the incident involving Dipu Das occurred in the Bhaluka area of Mymensingh district, Bangladesh. In contrast, the electrocution incident happened in Pabna district, nearly 200 kilometres away.

Police had accused five people in the Dipu Das murder case, and the name of the deceased man seen in the viral video did not appear among them.

Thus, it is clear that the viral claim is false.
