A large consignment of ganja weighing about 280 kg and estimated to be valued at around ₹1.40 crore was seized by the Mysuru City Police in the early hours of Monday.

Sharing this information with reporters, Mysuru City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar said a team of City Crime Branch (CCB) police intercepted a truck on the Mysuru-Malavalli highway and recovered the contraband, which was believed to be on its way to Kerala and other districts of Karnataka.

A total of four persons were arrested in the case. They have been identified as Mohammed Zubair, Mudasir Ahmed, Abubakar Siddiq and Syed Mazhar, the police said.

The seizure came about after pursuing intelligence-based inputs for about a week, said Ms. Latkar.

CCB teams managed to intercept a goods truck, which was carrying the contraband, in front of Hasiru Goodu Nursery Gate in Green County Layout on Mysuru-Malavalli main road within the limits of Alanahalli Police Station in Mysuru city.

A car, which was escorting the truck, was also seized in the operation, the police said.

Drug menace

Ms. Latkar said that the city police have been taking action against the drug menace in the city, targeting both peddlers and users of substances like ganja and other synthetic drugs by filing cases.

During the last three months, Ms. Latkar said the city police booked a total of 12 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotro

While a total of 28 accused persons have been arrested in connection with the 12 cases, 43 kg of ganja and 164 grams of synthetic narcotic substances have been seized. The city police have also registered 36 cases of drug consumption in the last three months.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Sundar Raj and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Harsha Priyamvada were also present during the media briefing.
