In Chittur, a namesake candidate appears to have shaped the outcome. An independent, allegedly fielded by the United Democratic Front (UDF), has split the votes of the Left Democratic Front (LDF)’s V. Murugadas, paving the way for a 6,510-vote victory for the UDF’s Sumesh Achuthan.
Murugadas P., the namesake candidate, polled 6,984 votes, exceeding the margin of victory. Without this split, the LDF would have won the seat by 474 votes.
