SCSC launches ‘Suraksha Kavach’ initiative to promote student safety and well-being in colleges

The Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC) has launched Suraksha Kavach – College Women Safety & Well-being Handbook, a comprehensive initiative aimed at strengthening student safety, mental wellness, anti-drug awareness and responsible campus culture through student-led clubs and participation.

The programme was launched in the presence of senior police officials, education leaders, mental health experts, industry representatives and students, with a focus on building safer and more inclusive educational environments.

Cyberabad Police Commissioner M. Ramesh stressed the importance of open communication, emotional well-being, disciplined lifestyles and active community engagement in addressing stress, isolation and substance abuse among youth. He reiterated that the police are taking strict action against drug networks while urging students to seek support from teachers, families and mentors without hesitation.

During the interaction, faculty member Varalaxmi highlighted that awareness programmes must be complemented by regular discussion forums.

Actor-director and writer Rahul Ravindran spoke about the risks of addiction, peer pressure and unhealthy coping mechanisms, urging students to focus on constructive goals and positive influences while actively engaging in initiatives like Suraksha Kavach.

Telangana Higher Education Council Chairman Balakista Reddy highlighted the responsibility of educational institutions in ensuring student welfare, stressing the need for mental health support systems, anti-ragging measures and strong institutional safety frameworks.

K. Srujana highlighted the importance of implementing anti-drug committee guidelines, strengthening student safety clubs and ensuring strict adherence to Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act frameworks in educational institutions.
