A 28-year-old crew member of the the upcoming Tamil movie Jailer 2 was electrocuted to death at the shooting spot near Panaiyur on East Coast Road (ECR) on Thursday (May 14, 2026).
According to the police, the deceased was identified as Karthikeyan, who was engaged in electrical connection work at the shooting spot. During the course of work in the afternoon, he accidentally came into contact with a live wire and was electrocuted.
On being alerted, the Kanathur police rushed to the spot and recovered the body, and sent it to a government hospital for post-mortem examination. A probe is under way.
Police sources said that portions of Jailer 2, the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Jailer, were being filmed near Panaiyur. The movie is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and stars Rajinikanth in the lead role.
Sources said actor Rajinikanth was scheduled to join the shoot around 2 p.m. on Thursday, but the schedule was cancelled following the incident.
